Synopsis
The first to bring the popular novel "12 Chairs" to the screen was not Leonid Gaidai, as some may believe. In the Soviet Union, the first adaptation was directed by Alexander Belinsky for Leningrad television in 1966. Adapting a beloved book with a well-known plot presents a significant challenge, as the audience is already familiar with the story in detail. Memorable lines have become part of the public consciousness, and viewers often have strong personal impressions of the main characters. As a result, any adaptation is likely to please some and disappoint others. Belinsky's version of "12 Chairs" is no exception and, naturally, will not satisfy everyone.
