Synopsis

Martha Graham was an influential American modern dancer and choreographer, widely regarded as one of the pioneers of modern dance. Born on May 11, 1894, in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, she developed a unique style that emphasized emotional expression and the use of the body as a tool for storytelling. Graham's technique, known as the "Graham technique," focused on contraction and release, a method that became foundational in modern dance training. She founded the Martha Graham Dance Company in 1926, which remains one of the oldest continuously active dance companies in the United States. Throughout her career, Graham created over 180 works, including notable pieces such as *Appalachian Spring* and *Clytemnestra*. Her contributions to dance earned her numerous accolades, including a Tony Award, a Kennedy Center Honor, and a posthumous Pulitzer Prize. Graham's influence extended beyond performance, as she also taught and mentored many dancers who went on to shape the field. She died on April 1, 1991, in New York City, leaving behind a legacy that continues to impact dance and the performing arts.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 15

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
