Synopsis
A Family Finds Entertainment follows the story of confused teenager Skippy and his experiences navigating "coming out." Trecartin's film embraces exaggerated portrayals of queerness, drawing from a range of "bad TV" conventions to create something both strange and heartfelt. The film features low-budget video effects, elaborate chess-themed costumes, emotionally charged scripts, and melodramatic storytelling, all delivered in the vernacular of youth culture. It reflects a generation shaped by—and often overwhelmed by—media consumption, portraying characters who are both harmed and validated by it.
