Synopsis
"A Place in the Land" chronicles the lives of George Perkins Marsh, Frederick Billings, and Laurance S. Rockefeller, three pivotal figures in the American conservation movement. Despite being born in different generations and leading distinct lives, they were united by a shared vision and a shared location. Marsh, Billings, and Rockefeller all lived in the same home and on the surrounding land in Woodstock, Vermont—a place that inspired each of them to commit to preserving the nation's natural resources and promoting a harmonious relationship between people and the environment. Today, their legacy and the land that influenced them are preserved at the Billings Farm & Museum, a museum documenting Vermont's rural history and a functioning dairy farm, and the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park—the first U.S. National Park dedicated to the teaching of land stewardship.
