A stern matron lives together in a luxurious home with her three married children. The eldest son's wife is not popular with the family because of her cross temper and foolishness. She invests all her husband's fortune in paintings that turn out to be forgeries. Her husband brings his mistress into the household as a maid. His mother is aware of their relationship and it has her approval.
