A Summer Tale
Synopsis
Set in the summer of 1958, the year Sweden nearly won the soccer world championship against Brazil, the story follows Yngve Johansson, who takes in two children—Mårten, a young boy, and Annika—for the summer. Annika is described as a tough and troubled girl, and the three do not initially get along. To the children, Yngve appears strict and authoritarian. However, when they learn that Yngve is attracted to their teacher, Cecilia Nilsson, they make it their mission to bring the two together. As the summer progresses, the three begin to realize they share more in common than they thought, and through their shared experiences, they find a renewed sense of purpose in life. The film is a gentle portrayal of life in 1950s Sweden, exploring themes of family, love, conflict, and the innocent, relatable bonds of childhood.
