In a desperate attempt to reach Europe, a six-year-old boy and his older sister crouch near an airstrip in Cameroon, waiting to sneak into the hold of an airplane. Nearby, an environmental activist reflects on a disturbing image: an elephant, dead and fangless. She must not only confront the issue of poaching but also the challenges posed by her newly arrived daughter from Spain. Thousands of kilometers to the north, in Melilla, a group of civil guards prepares to face a crowd of sub-Saharan migrants attempting to breach the border fence. Interwoven through a central theme, the three stories follow protagonists who are unaware that their lives are destined to intersect, altering the course of each other's futures.
