Åke från Åstol
Synopsis
On the island of Åstol, life is quiet and content, home to around two hundred residents, including Åke, who works at the island's herring salting factory. The factory is the primary source of income for the community. When the factory's owner, the stern manufacturer Ivar, arrives and announces that he has sold the factory to a summer visitor who intends to demolish it and build a summer home, a crisis unfolds on the usually tranquil island. Faced with the loss of their main livelihood, the islanders are deeply concerned. Åke is encouraged to take a course on the nearby mainland island of Tjörn, just over ten minutes by boat from Åstol. The journey proves unsettling for him as he enters an unfamiliar and challenging world. The course turns out to be computer training, which sparks an idea in Åke—he decides to sell herring over the internet.
