Synopsis

The film follows Max, a gay student navigating life and hardship in divided Berlin, all while encountering aliens. It is the debut film of Florian Gärtner, who tells the story with a restrained sense of humor and in poetic black and white. The film portrays gay young men in Berlin during the 1990s who arrive in the city with dreams of a free life, only to have to discover themselves first. "Aliens" has become a cult film among many fans over the years, though it was rarely seen. A reunion of Max, Toby, and Zenon, along with Berlin’s "SchwuZ" in the 1990s, is now being presented.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 9

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
