Three years after being convicted for drug trafficking, Erich Kessel is about to be released from prison. The timing is especially difficult for the addiction-free former narcotics officer, whose daughter has recently died from a serious illness. His wife, Claire, is willing to give him a second chance after years of separation, and his former colleague and friend, Superintendent Mario Diller, has secured him a job as a bartender. Kessel is determined to rebuild his life with integrity. However, just before his release, the double murder of a young drug dealer and his fiancée—herself the daughter of the influential Syrian crime boss Walid Schukri—threatens to derail his plans. Schukri, who is currently serving a long prison sentence alongside Kessel, offers him a substantial reward to find the killer of his daughter. For Kessel, now financially destitute, the offer is tempting, presenting the opportunity for a high-stakes investigation that straddles the line between legality and personal survival.
