An Idiot's Guide to Politics

Comedian Jolyon Rubinstein sets out to investigate why the Facebook generation appears disengaged from politics, with less than a quarter of under 25s planning to vote in the upcoming general election, according to a recent survey. The film combines stunts, pranks, and serious interviews as Jolyon explores whether this disengagement stems from apathy and ignorance or something more complex. Among his antics, he arrives at Conservative Party HQ on a fire engine wearing fireproof underpants, performing a "liar, liar, pants on fire" stunt; he visits UKIP HQ to assist Nigel Farage in using a lie-detecting test to uncover members with a hidden BNP past; he presents a statue of Ed Miliband as Wallace to a union leader, a gift from the Conservatives to thank him for helping Ed become Labour leader; and he attempts to raise £50k to secure a dinner with the Prime Minister, having learned that this is the standard donation required for access to Tory Party donors.
