Synopsis
ĀTMAN is a visually striking work based on the concept of the subject positioned at the center of a circle formed by 480 camera placements. The filmmaker shot the piece frame-by-frame, gradually increasing the speed of the circular motion. The title refers to an early Buddhist deity often associated with destruction. The Japanese influence is emphasized through the use of Hangan's devil mask from Noh theater, along with Noh music and the principle of acceleration commonly found in Noh drama.
