Synopsis
This opera depicts the consumerism of the mythical city of Mahagonny, showcasing all its decadence. Set in a Hollywood Babylon filled with pyramidal towers, carved elephants, commodified sex, and licensed gluttony, it is presented in three acts. It was performed live at the Salzburger Festspiele in 1998. The conductor was Dennis Russell Davies, and the stage director was Peter Zadek.
