BabaKiueria

Babakiueria is a satirical examination of black-white relations in Australia, first screened on ABC TV in 1986 to widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences. The series imagines a world where the roles of colonisers and colonised are reversed, depicting a fictitious land where white people are the minority and must obey laws set by black settlers. It presents a light-hearted and imaginative take on the process of colonisation by imagining what it might be like if black settlers had arrived in a continent inhabited by white natives, in contrast to the real-life arrival of white settlers in Botany Bay in 1788. The show featured Aboriginal actors Michelle Torres and Bob Maza (Heartland), alongside familiar faces such as Cecily Polson (E-Street) and Tony Barry, known for his roles in ABC-TV hits like I Can Jump Puddles and his Penguin award-winning series Scales of Justice. Babakiueria was awarded the United Nations Media Peace Prize in 1987.
