Lyudmila Pavlichenko was the most successful female sniper in history. She served in the Red Army during World War II and is credited with 309 confirmed sniper kills. Born on July 12, 1916, in Kyiv, Ukraine, Pavlichenko became a sniper after enlisting in the military in 1941. Her exceptional marksmanship and battlefield experience led to her being assigned to the 25th Rifle Division, where she quickly gained recognition for her skill. In 1942, she was wounded in combat and later transferred to a military hospital, where she began working as a propagandist and public speaker. Pavlichenko visited the United States in 1942 as part of a Soviet goodwill tour, where she met with American military officials and gave lectures about her experiences. After the war, she pursued further education and became a professor of history at Kyiv University. She retired from academia in 1990 and passed away on October 10, 1974, in Kyiv.
