Synopsis
In October 1989, the SO 36 district of West Berlin's Kreuzberg borough had been cut off by the Berlin Wall from the rest of the city for 28 years. A quiet subculture of students, artists, bohemians, and barflies had developed within its neglected buildings. Among them is Frank, a barkeeper known semi-formally as "Herr Lehmann" by his friends and regulars. He spends his time drinking, shows little interest in anything beyond SO 36, and casually pursues an affair with cook Katrin. His routine is gradually disrupted when his parents arrive for a visit, tensions with Katrin escalate, and his best friend Karl begins acting oddly. At the same time, political unrest grows on the other side of the Wall.
