Beyond the Wall
Synopsis
In September 1974, Heike and Ulrich Molitor, along with their two young children, are caught attempting to flee to West Germany at the Bösebrücke border crossing. As a consequence, the couple is given a difficult choice: they may leave East Germany with their seven-year-old son, Klaus, but their two-year-old daughter, Miriam, must be left behind and placed for adoption. If they refuse this arrangement, both parents will be imprisoned for a year, and both children will be taken from them. This real-life dilemma serves as the foundation for an emotional narrative that explores the intertwined fates of people in East and West Germany, culminating in the dramatic events surrounding the fall of the Berlin Wall.
