Synopsis
The so-called "Lost Years" refer to the period in William Shakespeare's life between 1585, when his children were born, and 1592, when he is first mentioned in London theatrical circles. During this time, little is known about his activities, and various theories have been proposed to explain what he may have done. One popular but speculative theory suggests he may have worked in London as a lute player or in some other capacity connected to the theater or music. However, there is no concrete evidence to support this or any other specific account of his movements or employment during these years.
