Synopsis
Billy Wilder was born on June 22, 1906, in Sucha, Austria-Hungary (now Sucha Beskidzka, Poland). He emigrated to the United States in 1925 and began his career in Hollywood as a screenwriter. Wilder became one of the most influential and celebrated filmmakers of the 20th century, known for his sharp wit, dark humor, and innovative storytelling. He directed and co-wrote many classic films, including *Some Like It Hot* (1959), *The Apartment* (1960), *Double Indemnity* (1944), and *Sunset Boulevard* (1950). Wilder won three Academy Awards for Best Director and was the first person to receive the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in 1970. He passed away on March 27, 2002, in Los Angeles, California.
