Black Watch
Synopsis
The BBC TV production of *Black Watch*, a play by the National Theatre of Scotland, presents an urgently topical exploration of the experiences of Scottish soldiers in Iraq. Based on interviews conducted by Gregory Burke with former soldiers who served in the conflict, the play follows the journey of a group of recruits from a pool room in Fife to an armoured wagon in Iraq. Through their perspectives, *Black Watch* examines what it means to be part of the legendary Scottish regiment, to participate in the war on terror, and to return home afterward. Directed by John Tiffany, the production uses movement, music, and song in a powerful and inventive way to create a visceral and urgent theatrical experience. It combines Scotland's military history with its tradition of popular, political theatre to address one of the most complex issues of contemporary times.
