Blutgeld
Synopsis
The film is based on a true story about HIV-contaminated blood products in Germany in the 1980s. The brothers Ralf, Stefan, and Thomas are hemophiliacs who live in constant fear of injury. When a new type of coagulant becomes available on the market, they are able to lead a more normal life. However, it soon becomes clear that a disproportionately high number of hemophiliacs are contracting HIV, but the Federal Health Office takes no action. Stefan is the first to die, though he is officially diagnosed with pneumonia. While Ralf refuses to accept the reality of the situation, Thomas is unwilling to acknowledge it, fearing that his family will be ostracized by society if his HIV status becomes public. This causes a bitter argument between the brothers.
