Celeste in the City

Celeste Blodgett, a small town girl from Bangor, Maine, moves to Manhattan after landing a job with the New York Examiner, only to discover it involves mostly fact-checking with little opportunity for real journalism. Her young flat neighbor, Kyle Halley, an interior designer, helps her renovate her apartment. At a party, she learns her cousin is gay and now goes by the name Dana Harrison, who promises to help her adapt to city life with a fashionable image transformation, successfully carried out with the help of various gay friends. Now ready for social life, Celeste hopes to impress her boss, the reputedly womanizing magazine section editor Mitch Tanzer. He agrees to read her work but refuses to publish it, citing ethical concerns due to their personal relationship—until she discovers the reality is different.
