Children and Matches
Synopsis
A cut-out animation warning for children about the danger of fire and playing with matches, differing from the grim tone of typical public service announcements and foreshadowing the complex human psychology explored in Norshteyn's later work. The film likely contains a metaphor targeting the power structure. The period 1968–69 marked a crucial transition for the animator, as he emerged from the group at Soyuzmultfilm and began scripting and co-directing films. Not listed on IMDb, this is one—if not the first—of his early solo directorial efforts.
