Synopsis

A working-class father struggles to find employment as the local textile mill hires only inexpensive child labor. With reluctance, he allows his oldest daughter to take a job at the mill. At the same time, in New York, the wealthy businessman Hanscomb is urged to speak out against child labor but refuses. While Mrs. Hanscomb and her daughter are traveling, the young girl becomes separated from them, gets lost, and is taken in by the working-class family. To assist them, she begins working at the mill. As this unfolds, Hanscomb simultaneously initiates a search for his daughter while continuing to build his financial empire.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 11

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
