An insurance fraud investigator races to expose a global network of illegal genetic passports in a dystopian future, but his obsession with the charismatic forger threatens to destroy both his case and his own identity.

Synopsis
In a dystopian future, insurance fraud investigator William Gold travels to Shanghai to investigate a forgery ring specializing in "papelles," futuristic passports that store individuals' identities and genetic information. He becomes involved with Maria Gonzalez, the woman leading the forgeries. After a brief but intense affair, Gold returns home and falsely implicates a coworker as the perpetrator. However, when one of Gonzalez's clients is discovered dead, Gold is reassigned to Shanghai to finalize the investigation.
