Cool Air

Charlie Baxter is a struggling screenwriter who moves into a dilapidated mansion in the remote mountains above Malibu in search of affordable housing. A creatively unfulfilled young man who rewrites exploitation sci-fi and horror scripts for a living, he rents a room and begins to learn about the enigmatic doctor who lives in the apartment above him and is involved in peculiar experiments. As Baxter uncovers more about the doctor, the landlady, her autistic daughter, and the unusual tenant across the hall, he finds inspiration for his long-stalled "great American screenplay." Working intensely, Baxter suffers a heart attack and goes to the doctor for help. He collapses immediately but awakens later, seemingly cured. However, his recovery comes with a devastating consequence.
