Cousin Bobby

Released: May 29, 1992Runtime: 70 min

BiographyDocumentary

Robert Castle is the idealistic pastor of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Harlem and the cousin of filmmaker Jonathan Demme. Demme's affectionate portrait of his cousin follows Castle's story, beginning with his first parish assignment in the early 1960s in a New Jersey neighborhood that was becoming increasingly African-American and was marked by violence and civil rights protests. The film explores intimate discussions of race, faith, and family, while also depicting Castle's daily routine as a pastor.
