Synopsis

Titles in both French and English help identify what is being shown. In all bodies of water, daphnia are abundant. These crustaceans are about 2 mm long and have a single eye that can move in all directions. Their antennae allow them to move; in a close-up magnified 150,000 times, the muscles of the antennae are seen pulsing. The eye, a nerve mass, blood globules, and the heart, which beats several times per second, are visible. The intestine appears as a long line. All the daphnia are female; their eggs develop above the intestine, leading to rapid new generations. Inside each daphnia are tiny infusoria, which are observed cleaning the intestine of a dead daphnia. An enemy, the hydra, approaches. One daphnia dies, but many others remain.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 1

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
