Das deutsche Kind
Synopsis
Cem Balta, an aspiring imam, lives in Hanover with his wife, Sehra, and their daughter, Hanna. For the family, German culture is as integral to their lives as Turkish culture. At least, that is what they believed until they take in Pia, the child of a friend, following a tragedy. This decision unexpectedly forces them to confront long-standing prejudices. Tensions arise even within their immediate circle over the choice to raise Pia. Soon, Pia's grandparents, Christine and Theo Unger, who are opposed to their granddaughter being raised by strangers and especially by practicing Muslims, become involved. A custody battle ensues, centering on themes of faith, family, and the meaning of home.
