Mathias Wengeler's racing pigeon loft on the roof of his house is more than just a hobby. The pigeons represent his true passion. When he is not working at his unfulfilling job in a call center, where he is frequently reprimanded by his boss, he spends his time caring for his birds, which are named after celebrities—Richard Burton for the males and Liz Taylor for the females. His family, particularly his daughter Dani and his wife Rita, are increasingly left out of his attention. Tensions in the household are rising, largely due to the growing stack of unpaid bills and final payment notices. Matters are further complicated by the impending closure of the children's home where Rita is employed. Despite these pressures, Mathias continues to spend money on bags of pigeon feed. Frustrated, Rita finally reaches a breaking point, declaring that it is now a choice between the pigeons and her. The question remains whether Mathias is truly willing to part with his beloved birds.
