Synopsis
Dr. Carter Elson discovers a list of men's names among his wife Alex's belongings and becomes alarmed when he finds his own name at the bottom, with some of the others belonging to dead men. Concerned, he turns to his friend and agent Betty as time runs out to uncover the list's meaning before his name reaches the top. Alex, a small-town woman who married the rising doctor in hopes of climbing the social ladder, faces setbacks to her ambitions. She connects with two other dissatisfied women, portrayed by Sonja Smits and Donna Pescow, and learns of a possible escape that could fulfill her desires. Together, the women plot to "shorten the list."
