“Many people write to God. Somebody is answering.”
Synopsis
A judge offers con‑man Tom Turner either a prison term or a year of community service. He chooses the latter and is assigned to the United States Postal Service’s dead‑letter office, where he begins responding to letters addressed to God as a Good Samaritan scheme. His apparently altruistic actions encourage his coworkers to adopt similar practices, but the postmaster general and law enforcement view their charitable deeds unfavorably.
