Synopsis
Frankie Dymon's *Death May be Your Santa Claus* (1969) is widely regarded as Britain's first and only 'black power' film. Set in the hip and hippy London of the late 1960s, the film explores themes of sexual and political identity intertwined within the social landscape of the time. It exists between the cinematic radicalisms of films such as Roeg's *Performance*, Godard's *Sympathy for the Devil*—in which Dymon also played a leading role—and Boorman's *Leo the Last*. Described as a 'pop fantasy', the film offers a distinctive perspective on 1960s sex and politics from a black British viewpoint. Thought to be lost until recently, *Death May be Your Santa Claus* remains an intriguing and rare artifact of its era.
