Der Mann im Strom
Synopsis
Jan Hinrichs is an experienced ship and salvage inspector. After the bankruptcy of his last employer, he takes on the role of a diver to make ends meet. As a widower with two children to support, his financial situation worsens when his daughter Lena becomes pregnant, adding a third person to his care. At 55, Hinrichs faces age-related challenges in securing the physically demanding job, as shipowners prefer younger, fitter candidates. To overcome this, he lies about his age during a job interview, falsifies his diving record, and obtains a fake passport. As he navigates this deception, the situation initially appears to work in his favor: Hinrichs performs his duties competently, and his employer is satisfied—at least for now.
