Devils on the Doorstep
“Comedy to carnage, in one remote village.”
Synopsis
During the Japanese occupation of China, two prisoners are left at a peasant's home in a small town. The owner is pressured into housing the prisoners until the next New Year, when they are to be picked up. The village leaders gather to question the prisoners, and the townspeople face the challenge of accommodating them. One prisoner is an aggressive Japanese nationalist, while the other is a jittery translator. The question remains whether the townspeople will succeed in keeping the prisoners until the New Year.
