Die Heimkehr
Synopsis
August Staudenmeyer returns to his hometown of Gerbersau after thirty years away, now a wealthy man. Initially, he is warmly welcomed by the townspeople. However, his support for the outlawed widow Katharina Entriss leads to his isolation. August comes to understand that the narrow-mindedness of the Gerbersau residents has not changed at all. Having gained both experience and love, he leaves his hometown for a second time.
