Synopsis
The Römerstrasse in Italy's Aosta Valley is a major traffic artery at the heart of modern Europe. Nestler's journey explores the region's dynamic history, as the Aosta Valley changed hands from the Roman Empire to the Burgundian and Frankish kingdoms before being acquired by Italy in the 11th century. The now-busy motorway, stretching from the Po Valley to the Great and Little St. Bernhard passes, is examined through the perspective of a historian. The documentary also highlights the cultural traditions and contemporary life of the region.
