Die Weihnachtsgans Auguste

Ludwig Löwenhaupt, an opera singer, wants to prepare a proper festive roast for Christmas and buys a goose in advance to feed his family. However, he does not anticipate that his children—Elli, Gerda, and Peterle—will grow attached to the animal, whom they name Gustje, and refuse to let it be eaten. After the goose is "liberated" from being locked up in the cellar, the "five kilos of meat" become a beloved pet that the children take to bed with them and with whom they communicate. Despite this, shortly before Christmas, father Löwenhaupt still intends to slaughter the goose. Yet, due to protests from his family and the conflict with his conscience, he is unable to go through with it. Instead, Gustje only has to leave behind a few feathers as proof of having been plucked, and Ludwig receives another goose that has already been prepared.
