Dirty Hands
Synopsis
Set in the fictional country of Illyria between 1943 and 1945, this political drama explores the assassination of a prominent politician. Illyria, an ally of Nazi Germany, is on the brink of being annexed by the Eastern Bloc. The television adaptation by Aki Kaurismäki of Jean-Paul Sartre's play *Les Mains Sales* (*Dirty Hands*) follows Hugo (Matti Pellonpää), a recently released prisoner who previously worked as a journalist for his party's newspaper. The timid journalist, who writes under the pseudonym Raskolnikov, seeks career advancement and finds an opportunity when Hoederer (Sulevi Peltola), the party leader, must be eliminated.
