Divine Intervention

The film follows Santa Claus as he attempts to outrun a gang of knife‑wielding youths, presenting one of several vignettes that depict Palestinian life in Israel, including scenes set in a Nazareth neighbourhood and at the Al‑Ram checkpoint in East Jerusalem. The stories range from droll to absurd, with one segment taking on a mythic and fanciful tone, and feature minimal dialogue. In one vignette, a man who sorts his mail each morning suffers a heart attack; his son visits him in the hospital and regularly meets a woman at Al‑Ram, where they sit together in a car with their hands touching. The woman later defies Israeli guards at the checkpoint and, in a ninja‑like manner, confronts soldiers at a firing range. A red balloon drifts overhead, neighbors toss garbage over walls, and everyday life continues until it is interrupted.
