Dutch Angle: Chas Gerretsen & Apocalypse Now
Synopsis
In the 1970s, Dutch photographer Charles ‘Chas’ Gerretsen gained sudden international recognition for his small but notable body of work. A self-taught photographer and former war photographer, he was invited by Francis Ford Coppola to document the entire set of *Apocalypse Now*, drawing on his experience capturing conflict. Much of his work from the iconic production had remained unseen until recently. To mark the 40th anniversary of *Apocalypse Now*, KINO Rotterdam, a cinema in Rotterdam, and the Nederlands Fotomuseum collaborated to uncover Gerretsen’s archive and co-produced a documentary. The film includes an in-depth interview with Gerretsen and over 100 images of the cast, such as Marlon Brando, Dennis Hopper, and Martin Sheen, as well as rare photos from deleted scenes.
