Eagle Dance, Pueblo Indians
Synopsis
Shot in 1898 by Edison cameramen, the film captures Pueblo dancers performing the traditional Eagle Dance. Dressed in feathered regalia and accompanied by drumming and chanting, the dancers move rhythmically to imitate the eagle's motions. The film was intended to display Native American ceremonial life to early motion picture audiences and is among the earliest surviving recordings of Indigenous rituals. The performance was staged for the camera, consistent with the ethnographic spectacle practices of late-19th-century filmmaking.
