Synopsis
Ed Gein, the real-life serial killer who inspired elements of *Psycho* and *The Texas Chain Saw Massacre*, was born on August 27, 1906, in Plainfield, Wisconsin. Known for his macabre crimes, Gein was convicted of murder in 1957 after the deaths of two women were discovered on his family farm. His crimes included grave-robbing, body snatching, and the use of human remains in the construction of personal items. Gein's disturbing behavior and psychological profile made him a subject of fascination for filmmakers and writers, particularly influencing the character of Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's *Psycho* (1960) and contributing to the atmosphere of horror in *The Texas Chain Saw Massacre* (1974). His case remains one of the most infamous in American criminal history.
