Synopsis

The German doctor Vicky falls in love with the young Turkish man Mehmet, whose family has lived in Berlin for many years and is generally open to Germans, including women. However, Mehmet's mother Fatma is resistant to Vicky because she is nearly her own age. Fatma, who refers to all German women as "Helga" and all German men as "Hans," is shocked and determined to drive out "old Helga." When Hidir, Fatma's husband, dies and the family cannot afford to transport his body to Turkey, the Ciller family suddenly becomes dependent on Vicky. Mehmet, however, insists that he will only accept money from her if they get engaged immediately. Vicky, feeling brave and happy, agrees and travels with the mourners to Turkey, to Fatma's home village. There, in the Cappadocian village, the comedic showdown between Fatma and Vicky takes place—marking the beginning of a wonderful friendship.
