Einmart
Synopsis
The film's opening images set unprecedented standards in East German animated cinema: a Bunuelian eye that fills the entire screen, real-life sequences of fleeing animals, and a sound collage that contradicts the visual imagery. This stylistic approach extends to the protagonist, a head on a foot without a body or arms who moves wearily through a bleak environment. Upon seeing various figures in the sky, he begins to imitate their movements. To his surprise, he grows wings and takes to the skies. However, his flight ends in a sobering realization: flying creatures are still limited in their range.
