Einstein's Big Idea
“The story behind the world's most famous equation, E = mc2”
Synopsis
More than 100 years ago, Albert Einstein wrestled with the implications of his groundbreaking special theory of relativity and arrived at a profound realization: mass and energy are equivalent, linked by the equation E = mc². In *Einstein's Big Idea*, NOVA presents a compelling dramatization of the story behind this formula. E = mc² was one of several major breakthroughs Einstein achieved in 1905, which also included completing his special theory of relativity, providing evidence for the existence of atoms, and offering an explanation for the nature of light, a work that later earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics. While E = mc² is arguably Einstein's most well-known idea, many remain unclear about its true meaning. Through a thought-provoking and engaging docudrama, NOVA explores the origins and significance of this seemingly simple yet profound equation.

How many hands made this film
The scale of the collaboration
Principal cast & crew: 19
These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.
Why a floor?
This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
