El Hamagy

The play explores certain negative human traits and how they are justified by the devil, while on the other side, angels help individuals distance themselves from these traits, examining the conflict between good and evil. The central character is the student Adam Abed Rabbo, whose name appears to carry the meaning of "man." The first of these traits is lying: Satan begins to encourage Adam to lie, and this lie turns out to be directed at himself rather than others; he comes to believe he is wealthy and in need of nothing, despite being unable to afford even a meal for himself and his wife. Other negative traits such as envy, sedition, doubt, and betrayal are among the issues Adam attempts to navigate, with Satan consistently aiding in the execution of the plan.
