Synopsis
Desmond Doyle is deeply affected when his wife leaves their family the day after Christmas. His unemployment and the absence of a woman to care for the children—Evelyn, Dermot, and Maurice—lead the authorities to determine that the situation is unsustainable. As a result, the Catholic Church and the Irish courts decide to place the Doyle children in Church-operated orphanages.
