Synopsis
Scripted by Ingmar Bergman, the film is a deeply personal exploration of a destructive affair that shatters the marriage of an actress named Marianne and a musician named Markus. Desperate to continue the affair, Marianne moves in with her lover. However, she is tormented by Markus's refusal to grant her custody of their daughter. Eventually, Markus suggests a possible resolution to their deadlock, but this leads to deception, falsehoods, and ultimately, tragedy.
