Dorante, an impoverished young man, is hired as a secretary by Araminte, a wealthy widow with whom he is secretly in love. The valet Dubois works to help Araminte fall for Dorante. After staging Marivaux's comedy at the Odéon theater, Luc Bondy transforms the entire theater building into a film set, positioning his actors in the foyer, beneath the stage, in the kitchens, and in other unusual and unexpected locations, creating a new dynamic between theater and film.
